I'll believe it when I see it, which is apparently never
IIRC we've seen quite a few articles on Bitcoin mining and immersive cooling but it doesn't seem to have materialized yet on any significant scale.
There are some interesting challenges with that specific (dual fluid) setup. I love how they downplay some of them:
low global warming potential
minimal fluid loss
Let's see. Vapor likely means the tank needs to be sealed/pressurized. A leak of any of the two fluids would probably result in something ranging from highly messy to catastrophic. It's great that there is no pump for the coolant but the water loop likely requires pumps, radiators, fans, the works.
"95 percent cooling energy savings" doesn't say much if we don't know what was the energy consumption to begin with, the relative costs of the system, etc. What are they comparing with? A/C? Evaporative? Just blowing hot air outside and hoping for the best?
On the bright side, replacing dead boards could be an interesting snorkeling experience.
