Yeah, its a trend I watched happen as well in the last year especially. I imagined it happening five years back. After noticing the separation of r/Bitcoin and r/btc from the beginning. I knew "news" sites and other said groups would eventually polarize. The Bitcoin scaling events has been the line in the sand that gets into everyone's eyes.
Crypto-currency is coming out everywhere as the new widget to program and profit from! Now more legacy outlets run crpyto stories to garner more attention. The outlets that had to survive the years had to fold, merge, or promote (bribed) coins and questions teams/devs. News outlets can also be bullied to silence to retract even truthful critique about said project.
That leaves us and many going to forums to interact and read up on upcoming and ongoing coins/projects. I find myself on BCT as well going after scammers and finding some great/interesting projects. I don't think this will change.
I agree that it is daunting with all the amount of data you can read about just one project. What I eventually came up with is to focus in on three coins/projects. You and others can come up with your own parameters to decide on but that's what I suggest to people now. Focus in on what you want in this space. Others can mention the highlights of other projects. Together we all learn
